Capitalizing on this problem situation as an opportunity to appeal to our internal resources, encourage ourselves to do something different and come out stronger, is the path that many people are currently looking for in their working lives. But what is in the background of the relationship between motivation, expectations and the duration of unemployment, and what helps to overcome it?

What numerous cases say

Recent research shows that the period of unemployment tends to be reduced for those who relate their chances of success to their behavior. It has been observed up to more than 10 months of difference, between those who maintain a calm conviction that they will find employment and concentrate on what they can do, and those who cannot.

Resilience

From Positive Psychology, resilience is understood as the ability to adapt to adverse circumstances, learn from them and overcome them. Resilience depends on social, psychological and biological factors. It is based on self-esteem, linking directly to our beliefs about our potential to intervene in situations.

Usually we do not perceive it, but we appeal to this internal engine daily for different purposes. And it is that we can get used to thinking about our experiences in a more convenient way, without departing from reality.

What other aspects help you get a new job sooner?

In general terms, we can point out:

* Proper job search planning. How fast can we access information that fits our profile? Whether about jobs or courses, it is necessary not to hesitate to approach people or organizations that can collaborate.

* Keep calm and speak to each other appropriately. Do the messages that we address help us to move forward and better control stress? After an interview, for example, do we recognize the aspects in which we perform well? Do we tend to expect an unfavorable result? Do we see where we can improve and tell ourselves that we will do even better next time?

* Linked to the previous point, train skills for selection interviews, including requesting returns from interviewers.

Keep calm to face unemployment

* Improve the curriculum.

* Continue with different activities such as exercising, caring for family and friends, protects psycho-physical health and our bonds.

* Social support. From groups of people who are going through the same situation or seminars for entrepreneurs, to your friends and acquaintances. Appealing to the network of contacts is another tool to find a job.

It is logical that different situations are frustrating to us during unemployment, but there are always aspects on which we have the power to intervene. People with a resilient attitude tend to maintain better psycho-physical health and get a job or clients earlier , and this factor is no less important than age, gender in certain sectors, or others.
